Abstract:
Raman spectroscopy has been used successfully to target new applications and specific intractable problems in drug research and development. New advances in both the technology and science is driving completely new ways of addressing scientific challenges of cellular drug behavior through to rapid assessment of critical quality attributes in manufacturing.
Advanced designs based around an inverted microscope and using advanced data capture techniques gives us the means for monitoring and imaging the dynamics of intracellular drug behaviour. New developments in targeted nanoparticle technology has improved the sensitivity through plasmon interactions giving a many-fold enhancement in signal strength.
Downstream developments in whole tablet analysis is leading to a new vision for testing for critical quality attributes. This innovation is standing up to the challenge of robust, rapid analysis of components in a formulated product. The technology is a step towards better manufacturing control.
